|Charlotte, North Carolina (Thursday, June 11, 2015): The last few weeks for Bremen, Ky.’s Hunter Baize have been a whirlwind. On May 25th, 2015, he visited victory lane for the first time in a Super Late Model, and then traveled to Charlotte, N.C. to take care of some racing-related business. For the time being, however, his focus is on the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the upcoming Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway located in Marne, Mich.
Baize currently sits second in ARCA/CRA Super Series points entering Tuesday’sevent. In four ARCA/CRA Super Series events thus far, Baize has yet to finish outside the top-10 including a victory in the Calypso Lemonade Chicagoland Showdown at Illiana Motor Speedway (Ill.) on Monday, June 1, 2015.
This year’s running of the Berlin 251 features some of the best race car drivers in the country. Names such as NASCAR stars Erik Jones and Chase Elliot, as well as Late Model standouts like Bubba Pollard and Brian Campbell. In addition to being race No. 5 of the ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule, the event is also the first race in the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown Series. The Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Ind., and the Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Ind., are the other two events in the series. If a driver is able to win all three events, they will take home an additional $100,000 check.
“I’m ecstatic to be heading back to Berlin Speedway (MI), which seems it’s becoming my “home track,” although it’s eight hours from home,” said Baize. “The 251 is a huge event, and we’re excited to be a part of it. I believe our VRD team is strong enough to compete with anyone, and I’m hoping we can show that at the 251.”
Baize’s next event will the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 at the tricky Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Baize has one victory at Columbus Motor Speedway. He picked up the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour victory last Memorial Day weekend. Following the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125, he will head to the Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Miss. with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. The event, which was postponed due to weather on May 30, 2015, is one the biggest Pro Late Model events in the country. The winner receives a “Green Jacket,” as well as a $8,000 check, the largest payday in Pro Late Model racing today.
This season Baize’s Van Doorn Racing Development Pro and Super Late Model race cars will carry sponsorship from Mountaineer All-Natural Firewood, B&K Wood Products, Kawasaki, Wood-Mizer, and Steel City Bolt.
