Special from DuroByte Motorsports: (August 30, 2017) – DuroByte Motorsports and 14 year old driver Michael Clancy Jr. will begin the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Championship Chase this Sunday in the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com on the Famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, located in Winchester, Indiana. The event will be part of the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, one of the biggest stock car events held each year in Central Indiana.
Sunday’s race will be the first of the four event Championship Chase to crown the 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion. This is the first year the series will crown its 2017 Champion using the Chase format. Clancy Jr. is one of eight drivers who will be battling over the next three series events to be one of four drivers in the Chase’s final event on Friday, October 6th during 46th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend. The highest finisher of those four drivers in that race will be crowned the 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion.
The seven other drivers contending for the Owners and Driver’s Championships are Carson Hocevar and Jack Smith by their wins during the regular season and Jack Dossey III, Austin Kunert, , Hope Hornish, Thomas Woodin and Thomas Hufferd by their points to date.
Clancy Jr. raced two times at Winchester Speedway during his 2016 rookie campaign with the series, getting a 12th place finish in the Labor Day Weekend event last year and a ninth place finish in the season Championship event on Winchester 400 Weekend.
“”The upcoming race at Winchester Speedway will be a good competitive race with it being the start of the Championship Chase for the series,” remarked Clancy Jr. “I’m excited to go back to Winchester, it’s a fast track and a lot of fun to race!”
“Winchester is one of our favorite tracks on the schedule,” remarked crew chief Jimmy D Smith. “It’s very fast and with the high banking, it makes for great racing! Our goal is to stay in the Chase at the last cutoff so we will be doing everything we can for good finishes at the next three races!”
Past series winners at Winchester Speedway include NASCAR Star Chase Elliott, NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Kyle Benjamin, two time ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Travis Braden, Trent Snyder Jack Smith, Corey Deuser, and Brandon Oakley.
The DuroByte Motorsports and Clancy Jr. got their fourth straight top ten finish in the series last event at Birch Run Speedway on August 18th, where Clancy finished in seventh. His other top ten finishes include a sixth place finish at Kil-Kare Raceway on July 9th, a 10th place finish at Berlin Raceway on July 15th and a 10th place finish at Auto City.
Clancy Jr. had representatives of one of his main sponsors Dalton Industries, on hand for the Birch Run Speedway event, which is one of the closest tracks to Clancy’s and DuroByte Motorsports homes. Clancy Jr. participated in an on track autograph session at Birch Run, the event had a great crowd come out to see the series and the track with its new owners.
DuroByte Motorsports will campaign Howe Racing Chassis Ford’s again in 2017 with Ford engines by Ilmor. The team will have sponsorship for the 2017 season from Made In Detroit and Dalton Industries along with Ilmor Engineering and Nalett Trucking.
At 13 years old during the 2016 racing season, Clancy Jr. was the youngest regular competitor with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Clancy Jr. went on to get three top ten finishes during the season, with a top finish of sixth twice, once on the High Banks of Salem Speedway and at the tough quarter mile of Anderson Speedway. Clancy Jr. finished 7th in final series Driver Points and was second in VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie of the Year points.
