Hudson Sweeps the Bowl in Winning First Five Crown Series Event

Salem, IN (April 22, 2018) – Owensboro, Kentucky native Brett Hudson rolled a fast car out of his hauler at Friday’s open practice and never looked backed in sweeping the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS Spring Fever 200 at Shadybowl Speedway Saturday night. The event was the first race in the series Five Crown Series for the 2018 season with Hudson collecting the $3,000 first place prize money.

“We had a great car from the time we unloaded,” remarked Hudson. “We were fast in practice, qualifying and once we got out front, nobody was going to pass us. I have to thank my mom and dad and my whole crew for all their hard work they put into this race car every time we go race. It was a long race, had hold off guys on those restarts, but we got it done!”

Hudson was fastest in both series practices on Saturday afternoon. Hudson then set fast time in Allstar Performance qualifying, besting the 31 cars on hand for the event on Saturday. Hudson drew a nine for the events inverted start, but it didn’t take Hudson long to grab the lead on a restart right before the halfway break. Hudson then held off all challengers in the second half during several restarts including 2017 event winner Chuck Barnes Jr., and 2016 event winner Josh Poore, who look to have the fastest car to challenge Hudson, but mechanical issues cost him several laps in the pits.

For his dominating weekend performance, Hudson was awarded the Racers Parts Wholesale Sweet Move of the Race Award as well as the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race for his pass to get the lead.

Jacob McElfresh came from his 11th place starting position to finish second. Early leader Evan Burch would finish in third. Local racer Rodney Roush came from his 13th place starting position to finish in fourth place. Brian Hopkins came from 17th to finish in fifth place after pitting late in the race with damage. Barnes Jr., would finish in sixth after being involved in a late race caution while battling for second. Larry Greene came from his 25th place starting position to finish in seventh. Lee Schwartz, Jacob Muncy and Buck Purtee rounded out the top ten.

With the win and second place finish, Hudson and McElfresh received Road to Bristol guaranteed starting positions for the series event with the upcoming Short Track U. S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway. There is one more Road to Bristol series event coming up at Mt. Lawn Speedway on May 6th. To receive any of the Road to Bristol guaranteed starting positions, a driver must compete in all both Road to Bristol events.

The next Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks event will be the Bob Fields Memorial 200 at Mt. Lawn Speedway located in New Castle, Indiana on Sunday, May 6th. That event will be the second event of the season for the series and the second event of the CRA Street Stock Five Crown Series.
